How to prepare clothes for resale
A closet clear-out starts with knowing what you own. Whether you sell on Vinted, Depop, Facebook Marketplace or another service, clear photos and accurate garment details help people understand your piece.
1. Sort before you list
Separate pieces to keep, repair, donate or sell. Group sale candidates by garment type so you can photograph similar items together. Build a FitPlug collection to keep those pieces easy to find.
2. Photograph the actual garment
Use clear light and a simple background. Show the front, back, brand and size labels, fabric texture and any flaws. Avoid filters that change the color. Keep other people's photos out of your listing.
3. Record useful item details
Note the brand, garment type, labeled size, material from the care label and actual condition. Measure relevant areas such as chest width, length, waist or inseam, and explain how you measured. State uncertainty rather than guessing.
4. Describe wear honestly
Check seams, fastenings, stains, pilling and repairs. Explain visible wear in plain language and include close-up photos. Only make authenticity or provenance claims you can support.
5. Prepare your price and delivery details
Review comparable items and distinguish asking prices from completed sales where that information is available. Check the selling platform's current fees, shipping options and rules before setting your price. Keep packaging and postage costs in mind.
6. Keep your records current
When you list elsewhere, note where the item is available and update each listing when it sells. FitPlug does not automatically publish, synchronize or remove listings on other services.
Start with your virtual closet
Use FitPlug to photograph and catalog your clothes, curate collections and build outfits (see how a virtual closet works, or our guide to vintage resale). When you're ready to sell, list any piece straight from your closet on the FitPlug marketplace, with secure checkout, prepaid shipping labels and payment once it arrives.
