Your virtual closet: what it is and how to build one
A virtual closet is a digital copy of the clothes you own: a photo of each piece with its brand, size, color and what you paid, all in one place on your phone. It works like a wardrobe organizer and outfit planner in one, and on FitPlug it doubles as the starting point for reselling what you no longer wear.
Why keep a virtual closet
Know what you already own
Most of us forget what's at the back of the wardrobe. A virtual closet puts every piece on one screen, so you stop buying a third black sweater and start wearing the two you have.
Get dressed faster
When your clothes are photographed and grouped, planning an outfit takes a minute on your phone instead of ten in front of the mirror. You can plan for a trip or a week of work the night before.
Spend with intent
Recording what you paid shows where your money actually goes. Seeing your closet by category, brand and color makes gaps and duplicates obvious before you shop.
Make resale easy
A piece that's already photographed, measured and described is most of the way to a listing. When something no longer fits your life, selling it is a few taps rather than a weekend job.
How to build your virtual closet on FitPlug
1. Start with what you wear most
Don't try to catalog everything in one sitting. Begin with the twenty or thirty pieces you reach for every week. Your closet becomes useful straight away, and you can add the rest a category at a time.
2. Photograph pieces in batches
Lay garments flat or hang them against a plain wall in daylight. Shoot all the tops, then all the pants, and so on. A clear, consistent photo matters more than a perfect one.
3. Add the details you'll actually use
On FitPlug each piece can carry a name, category, brand, size and size standard (US, UK, EU), color, fabric, fit, season, where it was made and what it cost. You can attach a receipt or a certificate of authenticity too, which helps when you sell.
4. Group pieces into collections
Collections are your own shelves: workwear, a capsule wardrobe, vacation packing, pieces to repair, pieces to sell. One piece can sit in several collections.
5. Build outfits from your own pieces
The outfit builder lets you combine pieces you've added into looks you can save and come back to. Over time you'll see which pieces anchor lots of outfits and which never get picked.
6. Check your wardrobe analytics
FitPlug totals your closet by value, category, brand and color. Your closet value is only shown to other people if you choose to show it.
From closet to resale
Clothes you don't wear still have value. Because each piece in your FitPlug closet already has photos and details, you can list it on the FitPlug marketplace in a few taps, choosing its condition (new with tags, like new, good or fair) and your price. If you're not sure you want to sell, leave it in your closet and let other members make an offer. You choose what to accept.
When something sells, FitPlug provides a prepaid shipping label, and you're paid once the buyer confirms it arrived, or automatically a few days after tracking shows it was delivered. Buyers are covered if a piece never arrives or isn't as described. Questions people ask
Is FitPlug's virtual closet free?
Yes. Creating an account, adding pieces, building outfits and collections are free. Fees only apply when you buy or sell on the marketplace.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. FitPlug runs in your phone's web browser, so you can photograph a piece and add it straight away. It works on a computer too, with the same account.
Who can see my closet?
You decide. You can mark individual pieces private, or make your whole account private so only followers you approve can see your posts and pieces.
How is a virtual closet different from a spreadsheet or notes app?
A spreadsheet holds text; a virtual closet holds the garment itself, with photos, sizes and value in one place. You can build outfits from it, see your wardrobe at a glance and list a piece for sale without retyping anything.
Can I sell straight from my virtual closet?
Yes. List any piece on the FitPlug marketplace from its page in your closet, or leave it in your closet and let people make offers. Sales include a prepaid shipping label, and sellers are paid once the buyer has the piece.
